Delhi Metro has introduced a new on-the-go RuPay NCMC card for easy travel and payments across the metro network.

Delhi Metro launches On-the-Go RuPay NCMC card for easy travel.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in partnership with Airtel Payments Bank, has launched co-branded RuPay 'On-The-Go' cards. These cards are equipped with National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) technology. These cards will enable seamless and interoperable payments on metros, buses, and other transport networks across the country.

These co-branded cards, a combination of debit cards and Prepaid Payment Instrument for Mass Transit Systems (PPIMTS), will allow commuters to pay for metro travel across multiple cities and transport systems using a single open-loop card. This is a significant improvement over the existing cards issued by DMRC, which are limited to the Delhi Metro network only. This initiative is in line with the Government of India's One Nation, One Card vision, which aims to simplify and integrate transport payments across the country.

Key features of the 'On-the-Go' RuPay NCMC card:

  • One Card: This card will work not only on Delhi Metro but also on other metro and bus networks in the country.
  • Technology: This 'on-the-go' card works on contactless (tap and pay) technology, enabling fast and secure payments.
  • Type: This co-branded card is available as a debit card and prepaid (PPI-MTS).
  • Purchase and Availability: These cards are available through Airtel Payments Bank and will soon be available at metro stations as well.
  • Digital Recharge: Passengers can recharge it online through DMRC or Airtel Payments Bank app, thereby avoiding long queues.
  • Advantages: It is more useful than the old closed-loop smart card, because it is interoperable

Promoting the “One Nation, One Card” Mission

DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar said that DMRC has always focused on adopting innovative solutions to improve passenger convenience. The new partnership with Airtel Payments Bank and the launch of co-branded NCMC cards will enable seamless and interoperable travel not only within the Delhi Metro network but also across multiple transport systems in India.

Anubrata Biswas, MD & CEO of Airtel Payments Bank, stated that this collaboration reflects a shared vision to simplify and modernize urban mobility through secure, digital-first solutions. The launch of co-branded “On-the-Go” NCMC cards will provide passengers with a smooth travel experience across different transport systems, supporting the broader “One Nation, One Card” vision.

Existing cards will continue to function normally. DMRC will also continue promoting NCMC card adoption. According to DMRC, this initiative marks a major step towards integrating digital payments into everyday mobility, combining transport and banking to deliver a unified travel experience for commuters.
