Route Planning

6

Go to the YoMetro homepage and use the route search bar. Type your source station in the first field and your destination in the second field, then tap "Find Route". YoMetro will show you the complete journey with all stops, interchange points, total distance, estimated travel time, and fare.

Was this helpful?

A route result includes: list of all stations on the journey, interchange stations where you need to change lines, platform direction (which platform to board), line colours, estimated travel time, total distance in kilometres, metro fare (normal and smart card), first and last train timings, and nearby attractions at the destination.

Was this helpful?

An interchange is a station where two or more metro lines meet. When your journey requires changing lines, YoMetro shows the interchange station and tells you which platform to move to for your next train. Interchanges typically add a few minutes to your total travel time.

Was this helpful?

Currently route planning works within a single metro network. Cross-network journey planning (e.g. Delhi Metro + Rapid Metro) for networks that share interchange stations is supported where physical interchange connectivity exists.

Was this helpful?

Travel time is calculated based on an average metro speed of approximately 32–33 km/h, which is a reasonable estimate for most Indian metro systems. Actual travel time may vary based on dwell time at stations, peak hour crowding, and specific network speeds. Always allow a few extra minutes.

Was this helpful?

YoMetro provides two route options. The Custom Route is manually curated by our team for accuracy and reflects the real-world recommended path. The Algorithm Route is computed automatically by our shortest-path engine. Both options are shown so you can compare and choose the best one for your journey.

Fares & Tickets

5

YoMetro calculates fare based on the official fare slabs published by each metro network. Some networks (like Delhi Metro) use a distance-based fare slab, while others use a station-count model. The fare shown includes both the standard token fare and the discounted smart card fare where applicable.

Was this helpful?

Fare structures can change without notice when metro authorities revise their pricing. YoMetro updates fares as quickly as possible, but there may be a short lag after official revisions. Always check the official metro website or ticket counter for the most current fare before your journey.

Was this helpful?

Yes! YoMetro has partnered with ixigo to enable metro ticket booking directly from the route page on mobile. Tap the "Book Ticket" button on a route result to open the ixigo booking experience for supported networks (Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai).

Was this helpful?

The normal fare is what you pay when buying a single-journey token at the counter. The smart card fare (also called stored value card) offers a 10% discount on most networks when you travel using a rechargeable smart card such as Delhi Metro's Delhi Travel Card (DTC). Smart card fares are shown on YoMetro wherever the discount applies.

Was this helpful?

Most Indian metro networks operate entirely air-conditioned coaches with a single fare class, so there is no separate first-class fare. Where special fare classes exist (such as Kolkata Metro's non-AC sections), YoMetro shows the relevant fare.

Metro Operations

5

Most Indian metro networks operate from approximately 5:30 AM to 11:00 PM, though exact timings vary by network, line, and station. YoMetro shows first and last train timings for each route. Always verify with the official metro website on public holidays as schedules may differ.

Was this helpful?

Train frequency (headway) varies by time of day and network. During peak hours (typically 8–11 AM and 5–9 PM) most networks run trains every 3–5 minutes on busy lines. During off-peak hours, frequency drops to 8–15 minutes. YoMetro shows peak and off-peak frequency data on route pages.

Was this helpful?

Yes, metro trains run seven days a week including Sundays and most public holidays, but often with reduced frequency. On national holidays like Republic Day and Independence Day, some networks run special schedules. Check the relevant metro network's official announcements for holiday timetables.

Was this helpful?

Simply wait for the next train. Tokens and smart cards are valid for the journey regardless of which specific train you take. There is no reservation system for regular metro travel — your ticket is valid for one journey on that day. Check the frequency data on YoMetro to know how long the wait will be.

Metro trains are generally considered one of the safest modes of public transport in India. CCTV cameras are installed throughout stations and trains, and security personnel are present. However, always check the last train timing for your route on YoMetro — missing the last train means finding alternative transport.

YoMetro station pages list available facilities including: parking, feeder bus connectivity, ATM, divyang (differently-abled) accessibility, Sulabh restrooms, lift/escalator availability, platform type (elevated/underground), and nearby landmarks. Facility details vary by station and network.

Was this helpful?

Most modern metro stations are designed to be accessible and include ramps, lifts, tactile flooring, and reserved seating. YoMetro shows divyang-friendly status on each station page. For specific accessibility needs, it is recommended to contact the metro helpline of your network in advance.

Feeder buses are local bus services that connect metro stations to nearby residential areas and destinations not on the metro network. YoMetro shows feeder bus connectivity on station pages for networks where this data is available.

Smart Card & Payments

5

A metro smart card is a rechargeable stored-value card issued by the metro network. It offers a 10% fare discount, saves time at the token counter, and can be used across all stations on that network. If you travel by metro more than twice a week, a smart card is highly recommended.

Was this helpful?

You can get a Delhi Metro smart card (Delhi Travel Card) from any DMRC station's customer service centre or ticketing counter. A refundable security deposit and minimum initial recharge are required. The card can be recharged at station counters, online via the DMRC app, or at authorised recharge centres.

Was this helpful?

Generally, smart cards are network-specific and cannot be used across different metro systems. For example, a Delhi Metro card cannot be used on Bengaluru Metro. Each city's metro has its own card. Some cities are working towards interoperability via the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).

Was this helpful?

The NCMC (also called "One Nation One Card") is a RuPay-based transit card that can be used across multiple public transport systems including metros, buses, and suburban rail. Several metro networks have started accepting NCMC. Check your metro network's official website to confirm NCMC acceptance.

Was this helpful?

If your smart card balance is insufficient, the entry gate will not open. You will need to recharge your card at the nearest ticketing counter or top-up kiosk before travelling. Always keep a minimum balance of ₹50 on your smart card to avoid being caught short.

Safety & Rules

5

Prohibited items vary by network but generally include: explosives, flammable liquids, sharp weapons, large gas cylinders, and oversized luggage. Food and beverages are not allowed inside train coaches on most networks. Smoking is strictly prohibited at all stations and inside trains. Bicycles are generally not allowed except on designated services.

Was this helpful?

Yes, reasonable personal luggage is allowed. Most networks allow bags up to a standard carry-on size. Large suitcases and oversized items may need to go through security screening. During peak hours, it is courteous to avoid blocking doors and aisles with large bags.

Was this helpful?

Yes. All Indian metro networks have reserved seating for senior citizens, differently-abled passengers, pregnant women, and women travelling alone. Additionally, the first coach (nearest the engine) is typically a ladies-only coach. Please vacate reserved seats when needed.

Was this helpful?

Eating and drinking inside train coaches is prohibited on most Indian metro networks and can result in a fine. You may eat at station food courts or designated areas outside the paid zone. Water in sealed bottles is generally permitted.

Was this helpful?

Each train coach has an emergency talk-back button to communicate with the driver, and emergency handles to open doors in an emergency (only to be used in genuine emergencies). In case of fire or security threat, follow the instructions of metro staff. Emergency helpline numbers are displayed at all stations.
