Visakhapatnam (Vizag) Light Metro is an urban light rail transit (LRT) system consisting of 3 lines and 31 stations proposed to be constructed by Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, earlier known as Amaravati Metro Rail. Was known by name. Corporation (AMRC).
The detailed project report (DPR) of its 42.54 km long Phase 1 consisting of 3 elevated lines was originally prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which was also assigned to execute the project, in September 2015.
In 2017, the project was stopped due to its high cost and low ridership projections that were not in line with the new metro rail policy of the Government of India. Moreover, the AP government had given priority to Vijayawada's metro.

The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC) has decided to allow joint ventures (JVs) comprising a maximum number of companies to participate in the bidding for the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects. APMRC Managing Director NP Ramakrishna Reddy said in a press release that the permission granted to joint ventures is aimed at ensuring wider participation of eligible bidders and completing the projects within 36 months through competent firms with a proven track record of completing large projects.
After the Rs 6250 crore civil contract of the Vizag Metro project, the Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRCL) has invited bids for the first civil contract of the Vijayawada Metro Rail Project, costing Rs 4150 crore. This contract includes the design and construction of 38.40 km long viaduct, 1 underground metro station and 32 elevated metro stations for the first phase of the project.
Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRC) will organize a two-day developers and investors' meet in Mumbai on January 31 and February 1 for the implementation of the Vizag Metro Rail (VMR) project in public-private partnership (PPP) mode. Recalling that the Center had requested the state government to resubmit a proposal as per the Revised Metro Rail Policy, 2017, Puri said no proposal had been submitted in this regard.
