About Archeological museum

The Archeological museum was established in the year 1964 and is the most important of all the other museums and galleries in the city. The museum has 17 galleries on a variety of topics including thematic galleries, pre-history and fossils, quarry materials, metal paintings, inscriptions, sculptures, royal collections, textiles, independence movement, postage stamps, autographs, manuscripts, paintings, coins, weapons, documents Are included.

Notable here are the images of Hindu deities like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and the exquisite sculpture of the erotic couple of Khajuraho. The Archaeological Museum is a great place for history lovers in Bhopal.

  1. The museum displays an assortment of exquisite artefacts and antiquities excavated from local excavations in Madhya Pradesh.
  2. The main attraction of the museum is the precious artifacts including the idols of Lakshmi and Buddha along with the idols of Shiva, Parvati, Brahma and Vishnu.
  3. The museum also has fine carvings of two Khajuraho joints and 87 Jain bronzes that were recovered from Dhar in the 12th century during the Parmar dynasty.
  4. Paintings from different schools and copies of paintings from the Bagh Caves are other important exhibits in the museum.
  5. The paintings on display include the Shradh-karma of King Dasharatha, Ahilya-Udhara, Sita-Swayambhara, Bharat-Milap, Barhamasa, Mahabharata scene, Barwanala, Dwarka Santhagara and the figure of Akbar and Maharaja Ranjit Singh made of ivory.
