Interesting facts about Delhi Metro Red line

History of Delhi Metro Red Line:

The Tis Hazari to Shahdara section of Red Line was the first stretch of Delhi Metro that was constructed and commissioned. This 8.5 km section is inaugurated on 25 December 2002, by Prime Minister of India. Subsequent sections opened between Tis Hazari to Inderlok on 3 October 2003, Inderlok to Rithala on 31 March 2004 in Phase I and Shahdara to Dilshad Garden on 4 June 2008 in Phase II.

In Phase III of Delhi Metro, an extension of 9.5 km from Dilshad Garden to Ghaziabad ISBT (New Bus Adda) was approved by DMRC and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in January 2014. Construction initiated in early 2015, and commercial operations commenced on 8 March 2019.

Interchange on Red Line:

The Red Line has interchanges at Kashmere Gate with the Yellow and Violet Lines, at Inderlok with the Green Line, and at Netaji Subhash Place and Welcome with the Pink Line. An interchange with the Blue Line at Mohan Nagar is planned.

Delhi Metro Red Line Extension Plan:

Under the Phase IV of the Delhi Metro, the Red Line is proposed to be extended towards Kundli with 22 new stations of 27.319 km, like Rohini Sector 25, Rohini Sector 26, Rohini Sector 31 etc. 21 stations in 26.339 km will be elevated, except Depot Station, which would be At grade. The revised Detailed Project Report for the Rithala-Narela–Kundli corridor is expected to be submitted by July 2024. The report after finalisation will be submitted to the government for consideration.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved two new corridors of Delhi Metro Phase-IV project, comprising (i) 12.377 km from Indralok to Indraprastha and (ii) 8.385 km from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block. Consists of two volumes. The total project cost of these two corridors of Delhi Metro Phase-IV project is Rs 8,399 crore, which will be financed by the Government of India, Government of Delhi and international funding agencies.

Among the two sanctioned corridors of Delhi Metro, the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will be completely elevated and will have a total of eight stations. The Indralok-Indraprastha corridor will have 11.349 km long underground lines and 1.028 km long elevated lines, with a total of 10 stations. These new corridors are expected to be completed in phases by March 2026.

Alstom, the global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, on Sunday began production of its world-class Metropolis trainsets for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Phase IV. The order, signed in November 2022, aims to deliver 52 train sets, each with six coaches. The project is designed to complement three different lines of DMRC, with two lines being an extension of the existing Line 7 and Line 8, and the new Gold Line 10 connecting Aerocity to Tughlakabad, covering a total distance of 64.67 km. Decides.
